About Sage
Sage Goldsmith Tremaine was born in 1977 in Vermont. She currently resides on Nantucket Island in Massachusetts, and in New York City. Sage was married on Nantucket Island in June 2008. She is now Sage Tremaine, producing the same great paintings, only with a different last name! Sage is married to the Great Grandson of art collector Emily Hall Tremaine, who assembled one of the outstanding American holdings of 20th-century art.
Sage has been painting since she was old enough to hold a paint brush. She was exposed to painting by her grandmother, Sybil Goldsmith, a well established portrait and landscape painter. Sadly, Sybil passed away in January of 2005 at 87 years old. She will be sorely missed as Sage's mentor, but will remain a continued inspiration in her work. Sage and Sybil had annual art exhibits together on Nantucket during the summers of 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. Sage has also had solo exhibits held in Nantucket, MA; New York, NY; Northeast Harbor, ME; Palm Beach, FL; Burlington, VT; Stowe, VT; Charlotte, NC; and Darien, CT. Sage's work can be seen at her studio in Nantucket by appointment 508-228-9291; The Artist's Association of Nantucket at 19 Washington Street; The Westmoor Club at 10 Westmoor Lane off of Cliff Road; and Peach Trees at 19 Main Street.
Sage attended the Holderness School in Plymouth, New Hampshire where she established a wonderful relationship with her art teacher. Sage's art teacher recognized her talent and pushed her to further develop her work. This exposure to different art classes and students was a great way for Sage to see many different styles and techniques.
After graduating from Holderness School in 1995 Sage attended the University of Vermont. She graduated in May of 2000 with a Bachelor's degree in Studio Art. Throughout her college career Sage's focus was always in painting. She spent a semester in Italy studying art history in the many museums Italy has to offer.
Sage also experienced living out west in Lake Tahoe, California. She continued her studies in oil painting with a well known local artist. This instruction included the accompaniment of a concentrated group of accomplished artists all shown in various galleries. They would paint all day breaking only to critique each others work.
In New York City, Sage took classes at the Art Student's League in 2004 and 2005. She studied portrait painting under accomplished artists Frank Mason and Jack Faragasso. They worked from live models which changed weekly. Sage's knowledge of flesh tones greatly expanded. Sage also attended the New York Studio School in 2006. She focused on portrait drawing and painting under artist Ron Milewicz.
Sage was accepted into the Nantucket Artist's Association in 2001 which consists of a group of talented Nantucket artists. Sage has launched into the art world. She has had many successful solo and group shows which proves to lead to a promising future in oil painting. |
